Cool stuff

This is where I have put all of the stuff that did not fit anywhere else - sort of like a bike shed that stores everything except a bike. I've put in a lot of good links to some cool sites.

Accessories to make

A TRUSS TUBE helps to reduce ambient light. My design has an open tube and sometimes the surrounding (ambient) light can get onto my mirrors.

Get sheet of matt black cardboard about 80 X 45 cm.
Make a cut-out for my finder-scope.Trim the card to size and shape and roll it tightly enough for it to slide inside my tube
Let it unroll so it lies flush against my tube and maybe tape it in place - it must not interfere with a clear line of sight
You now have a CLOSED telescope tube

MIRROR DUST COVERS to stop grot getting onto my mirrors.

"Borrow" some plastic lid covers from the pantry OR
Plastic or cork drink coasters might do the trick OR
Get some of the same card you used for the Truss Tube. Cut a 125 mm circle and glue on an edge strip about 15 mm deep
Make a cylinder 35 mm diameter and 45 mm long from the same card to slide over my diagonal assembly

Some terrific links to astronomical resources

Nine Planets - really great introduction to our Solar System

Irish Junior Astronomy Club - terrific stuff here . Are the stars upside down in Ireland?
PLANET-SCIENCE Games, resources, jokes, experiments
NASA - want to be an austronaught (I sorta meant astronaught, but it looked good so I left it)
COOL-COSMOS - CALTECH's fun stuff
You really want to learn about optics? Arizona University is a great place to start
Optics for Kids - another great resource site
How the heck did I get in here? The dumbo building this site put in the wrong image file. Oh well!

Have you completed your Certificate of Achievement?

I do not technically exist until this is done!

The stuff below was not really necessary - I just put it in to fill the empty hole in the page

Thought you might look like this - ha-ha

I can see more than you

That'll teach Snuffy to look through my eyepiece
